The best place would be somewhere YOU feel relaxed and somewhere you would get as few distractions as possible.I personally lay down on my bed.But thats just where i feel most comfortable.You should also consider when you listen.I always find just after coming home from work the best time.Not sleepy...

Thats most probably why they are not working. Too many files will just confuse your mind and not work.How long have you listened to each file.Most files will take repetetive listening for quite a while before you notice any effects.
