What are the pro's and cons for a mobile optimized site.

A mobile optimized site is easier to view on a smartphone. This is generally done by building simplified menus. The problem with that is you lose some of the flexibility that you get from a full blown website. Most better mobile websites allow you to view either mobile or regular view.

In the case of WMM, the mobile site will start as only having access to the files and will then expand to certain other areas but isn't likely to have a lot of the toys or as in-depth data as the full site.
