You can use almost any recording software, even windows voice recorder will work. However, the 2 most recommended pieces of software are Audacity(free) and GoldWave(shareware).

Well, if you have one a recording studio is best, but since most of us don't here are a few simple recommendations.



1) Choose a quiet place to work, if you can hear it in the background, odds are so can the person listening.



2) Use a USB Microphone, the old analog ones with 2 jacks can be used but they pick up noise from your computer and can sound horrible.



3) Use a standalone Microphone, a headset microphone can work well, but they can pick up the sounds of your breathing whereas a standalone mike won't unless you are too close.

Yes, Speak as clearly as you can, the easier you are to understand the more likely people are to respond to your voice.



Pace yourself, there is no need to rush and if you speak too quickly people will lose track.



Be relaxed, if your voice sounds nervous or tense people will pick up on it. If it helps listen to a file before recording, anything that will help you project the calm you want your subjects to feel.



If you're not sure what you want to say, write it out, a file that is long and rambling doesn't help anyone. Writing your own script or even just an outline can help you make a good idea great.
